It was a conspiracy!!!

It's not easy to pull anything over on me. I'm pretty smart and I'm pretty clued in to what's going on around me. But I got punk'd - big time, lol! Thomas was bragging Monday night that he had a super, duper surprise for me for tomorrow (Tuesday). At first I was thinking....what's tomorrow??? Oh yeah, our anniversary - oops! Yep, I nearly forgot, my bad. And then I'm thinking, where did he get the money to do anything??? I'm in charge of the money and I didn't give him any!! But he was looking pretty smug with himself. Whatever. I didn't really think more about it, to tell you the truth.

So yesterday when I got The Bella off to school, and she was being a HUGE pain in the butt too!, I went upstairs to make Thomas' anniversary card. Seeing how I nearly forgot about the whole thing and because he had this "super, duper surprise" for me, I really tried to make a great card for him. While I was painting it (watercolored the image), I called Rachel to see what she was doing.

Normally on Tuesday nights she's home alone while her husband takes the kids to scouts. As she home schools her kids, this is the ONE NIGHT she's alone by herself so there was no way I was going to ask her to babysit so Thomas and I could go out. Turns out though that she's going to have the kids afterall, so she encourages me to go out. I call Thomas up, he says fine, and then I call her back to say yes and thank you. So cool, we're going out to dinner and can finally use those Olive Garden gift cards his Dad gave us for Christmas. (Normally we love OG, but the one here in Augusta, the service really sucks and so we never go there anymore!!)

Thomas gets to come home a little early from work and I give him his card. He says thank you and that's it's nice. Nice?? That's it? I was kind of miffed because I'm used to him "ohhing and ahhing" a bit more than that. So fine, whatever - jerk. So I ask for mine. My what? MY PRESENT!! You know, the super, duper surprise he promised me. WTH??? So then he kind of rattles on about how he wanted to do something, but he was just so busy at work that he didn't have time to do anything. Sorry.

I did the only thing I could possibly do. I pouted. And then ranted a little bit. I didn't want, or expect, anything special for our anniversary. We're really saving every penny right now for our move to Italy. Him not getting me anything was seriously no big deal. BUT....he made a big production the night before and got all smug and secretive, so I was curious and kinda excited to see what he had planned. For nothing. Jerk.

We drop Bella off at Rachel's house, and drive to OG. I haven't really let go of this yet. I don't know WHY, but I was really miffed that he lied to me. If you are going to do something, do it. If you tell someone something, follow through. I'm really big on following through. Thomas isn't. It's a difference in our personalities. I'm a detail oriented person. He's not. It makes me insane. And he got to hear about it the whole way there. Happy Flippin' Anniversary! {{grouch face}}

So fine. We're there. We're seated. Except that Thomas wants to sit on the side I'm about to sit on. What difference does it make??? But he HAS to sit on that side. He isn't earning any cool points with me right now. Fine, big baby, have your side. Jerk. Then he says he has to go to the bathroom. He's smiling though. I figure he just has to fart and for once doesn't want to share it with me. Yippee.

He comes back with a bag. What??? What did he do??? Apparently he and Rachel and OG were all in cohoots together!! He hands me a card and I open it up. He's made it himself, with help from Rachel!! Love it! And then he hands me the framed Military Wife's Creed he made for me. Ohmygosh! Then I feel TERRIBLE that I gave him such a hard time and I kinda teared up a little bit, because he really did go out of his way to make this special and "took it" when I gave him a hard time about forgetting about it. When he went over to Rachel's house Monday night to help her husband "study" for his board, he really asked her help to make a card and picked out the one he wanted to make from her sample book. Then yesterday, WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HER!!!, he was at her house making it, lol! Then he drove to OG with the card and present and asked them to hold it for him as we were going to be there at 5 pm.

So I got punk'd. And he was wearing that smug-assed grin the entire night. He had pulled one over on The Queen and he was lovin' every minute of it. Jerk. But he's MY jerk, lol! Love you Thomas!!!
This is what he made me!
And this is the card Rachel helped him make!
Isn't it great???!!!
He loves: my smile, my Happy Snoopy dance, and the way my face lights up at the word Italy! And apparently he LOVES punking me too, lol!

After dinner we still have a lot of time left, so we head to Hobby Lobby. Thomas got a really nice Army Scrapbook a couple of years ago, but then didn't do anything with it. While shopping around we saw some military kits, paper and stickers to make one and I encourage him to buy them. They weren't on sale but were really cool.

I had been wanting some special thread to try a new technique I'd seen in one of my stamping books I got for Christmas. They had exactly what I was looking for - yay!!
And these special border stickers are so awesome and were 50% off! So naturally I couldn't say no!
Also on sale, these bead "ribbons". Click to enlarge! I have no clue how I'm going to use them but I know it will be fun!
This is the card I made for Thomas.
I really worked hard on it!!
*********************************************
Remember how I forgot to take pictures of my party last Friday? At each place setting I made these spring baskets filled with chocolates. Each one was the same style, but all were different colors. This is the one extra I had so you can see it!
***********************************************
Making more progress on my UN-mounting project!
After these, I'll be "about" half done!
*sigh*
*************************************
So there you have it! I have an awesome husband, who is feeling VERY smug right now!! I still can't believe he pulled this over on me......I must be gettin' old! LOL!!

What a wonderful post detailed with the lovliest pictures.

How fun your birthday was -- you really are so creative and talented!

Men are big goof-balls -- what fun he must have had while secretly plotting away.

On my 40th birthday (almost four years ago), I told hubby I didn't want a party but I didn't mean it! C'mon, dude!!!!

I got nada -- not even a cake.

He's still hearing about that one. Yep.

Glad you had a great birthday -- thanks again for sharing your creativity with your readers.

Peace and serenity,
~Jo

Somehow, I always end up, unintentionally of course, ruining any surprise ever meant for me... so it's always good to how surprises work out for someone else! Queenie got punk'd - and in a good way - yay!

What a stinker your hubby is! The best surprises are the ones you aren't expecting though. Sounds weird, but true! Happy Anniversary!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

PRICELESS! I am cracking up! But I agree I hate when hubby tells you he did something then he doesn't follow thru. I am so glad you had a good one and tell Thomas way to go on the card, that was super sneaky of him!

This is especially amusing to me because Neal has done this to me more than once. And every time he does it, he has to listen to me whine and pout until the big unveiling. I don't know why he continues. Maybe because he can remind me of how much crap I gave him when he was on top of it the whole time? Of course, there was last April 1 when he DID forget our anniversary and I kept waiting and waiting for NOTHING. But that's OK..I find a way to bring it back up about once every 3 months or so. You got punked SOOOO good. *Secret winks to Thomas for getting you*. That turd. Your card is beautiful and I hope the whole "yeah that's nice" was part of the punking because if not, he needs to try again.

That's aweseom!!! Especially because he took the pouting before-hand! I love the sentimental home-made gifts. My husband did something like that one year for Christmas several years ago and it is still one of my most treasured gifts!! I'm glad you had a wonderful anniversary!!!!
