Kaltenberg Medieval Festival! Part One

I heard about this fest on Facebook early in the week, and tagged Thomas as something fun we might want to look into. (More info on this HERE.) He definitely agreed to it and we planned to go. Then it looked like the weather was going to be really bad (cold & rainy). He had a super busy work week, and was unable to get time to finish his college class final. Between the weather being iffy and his work still needing to be done, we decided on Friday night that our travel adventure was a "no go". *sad face* Bella took it the hardest but she understood. Well....it turns out that Thomas, with a little prodding, got his final finished by lunchtime! So we ate lunch and packed up to go after all! YAY!!!

The drive was supposed to be just under three hours, but with traffic and construction, it took over 3 1/2. Bella was exceptional the whole way, without a single complaint!!! The weather for most of the drive was simply gorgeous!!! Bright sunny skies and puffy white clouds. Then it started getting darker. And darker! Then it just POURED rain!!! We hadn't brought jackets or umbrellas. Still, we pushed through. By the time we got there, the rain had passed and it was gorgeous again, and stayed that way our entire time there. Perfect!

It was a rather expensive adventure, but I'm so glad we got to go!! Just getting in cost 70 euro ($95!). The main event is the jousting in the evening, but there were all kinds of shows throughout the grounds and many exhibits and craft sellers. It was like walking back in time!!!

Thomas wound up getting one of these, lol!

It was really crowded at this stall, so I didn't get to check out the brass seals. I have some here at home with various waxes. Love this stuff!!

Real quill pens! At another stall Bella got a leather journal, and I got a glass quill!

Very stinky smoked fish!

Whatever this was called, it smelled delicious!!! But it was covered in cheese and we had a long day and later a long car ride home. No cheese for Jeannie, lol!

Costumes for sale

This woman had the most gorgeous costume, and the front had tons of delicate white lace. So pretty!

The shepard & his flock of geese! His herding dog was so amazing!!! You'll see more video later.

Dinnertime!
I love German food, but this was the first time I didn't enjoy a German brat. But, it's what we had, so I ate it. I was really bizarre tasting though.

Bella surrounded by "her" knights!!
She blew them kisses, which they loved!

I had to get a photo of this couple!

And then insisted on a shot with The Bella!! Looks like a royal family!! :D

So cute!!! We lots of babies in wagons here.

More of "Bella's" knights!

Lots more on Part Two!

They have a Renaissance Fair in Minneapolis every fall. This reminds me of that. I always loved to watch the glass blowers, anything with woodworking or pottery, and the calligraphers. So cool! Did you buy Bella's dress at the fair? Very pretty! She looked smart with her knights! :)
