These are known as "kneeling windows". This style started in Florence and were quickly copied all over Europe.
We went to the museum to see Michelangelo's work, including his famous David (it's HUGE!), as well as glorious paintings and religious icons. We had a tour guide and I have to say she was sooo freaking boring and contemptuous - ugh! I just took Bella and we walked away from the group and looked at what we wanted to look at! She was going on and on about things I had had enough info about, and would whiz by things I wanted to see! Rude!! We wound up "dumping" her as soon as we left the museum and found out the meet-up time and place, to discover the city central on our own! We couldn't take photographs inside the museum, but I did buy a fabulous book!

This was the original Medici palazzo. It looks more like a fortress on the ground floor, but that was done deliberately!

The facade of this church was commissioned but never done. So that is why it looks kind of drab & ugly.
We sat on these steps and ate our picnic lunch! We had salami sticks and rosemary bread - so yummy! Then we fed the pigeons for a bit. It felt good to sit in the sunshine and just enjoy the atmosphere! There were tons and tons of market stalls starting right there at the corner and we had a fabulous time checking them all out!

So breathtakingly gorgeous!!There is ivory, rose and green marble as well as tons of sculptures and frescoes.
Not sure what this is, but it was directly opposite the Duomo.
