Things I learned living in SE Georgia!

Things I have learned living in Southeast Georgia:
1. A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.
2. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in SE Georgia
3. There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in SE Georgia
4. If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.
5. 'Onced' and 'Twiced' are words.
6. It is not a shopping cart, it's a buggy.
7. 'Jaw-P?' means, 'Did y'all go to the bathroom?
8. People actually grow and eat okra.
9. 'Fixinto' is one word.
10. There is no such thing as 'lunch.' There is only dinner and then there is supper.
11. Iced tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it whenyou're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar.
12. Backwards and forwards means, 'I know everything about you.'
13. The word 'jeet' is actually a phrase meaning, 'Did you eat ?'
14. You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.
15. You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH EM.
16. You measure distance in minutes.
17. You switch from heat to A/C in the same day.
18. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.
19. You know what a 'DAWG' is.
20. You carry jumper cables in your car --- for your OWN car. (Thank God, this is not the case for me)
21. You only own five spices: salt, pepper, Texas Pete, Tabasco andKetchup. (I have 2 cabinets full of spices, but then again - I am a transplant)
22. The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and high school football.
23. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.
24. You find 100 degrees Fahrenheit 'a bit warm.'
25. You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.
26. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past time known as 'goin' Wal-Martin' or 'off to Wally World.'
27. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good hog killing weather.
28. Fried catfish is the other white meat.
29. We don't need no dang driver's ed. If our mama says we can drive, we can drive, dag-nabbit.
30. You understand these jokes and forward them to your SE Georgia friends and those who just wish they were in SE Georgia.

Oh my gosh, number 15 made me laugh. It reminded me of when I was a telemarketer for Direct TV and did technical support. This man called in complaining that his remote didn't work. He kept saying "I mashed it and nothin happened!" I'm thinking, you smashed your remote? No wonder it doesn't work! Of course he was saying he pushed the button and nothing happened! Oh goo!

I was born in GA and all of these are soo true! I still say buggy and people look at me like I am crazy. Some of these things I will not admit are actually true of me (hehe) but you can never take the southern out of the girl!

The fact is that most of those go for any southern state...Virginia & North Carolina, for example, where my Mom's relatives are from...they do and say ALL those things. Damn rednecks!

But Wally World??? Are you friggin kidding me? I thought Wally World was just a made up name for the amusement park in the Nat'l Lampoon Vacation movies! Who knew? Damn rednecks!

Funny! I measured distance by minutes in traffic during certain times of the day (raised in Southern California). :)

Yee Haw Jeannie. That's why I live up North with all the Yankees. But I do love me some grits and collard greens. FYI - I can't comment unless I use my blogger sign in so don't forget that I'm now at www.meandtheblueskies.com. Plus, I finally got your button to work on my new blog.

You could write a book with these. Seriously. One of those mini books that you see in stationary stores.

...Or maybe these have the making for a line of cards. :)

Love your sense of humor!

I learned all about #10 several years ago. I worked with some people down in MS, and they always referred to lunch as dinner, and dinner was supper.

Alotta these are common in Louisiana too. At least they are in the N'Awrlin's area.

Been around the world, and I can't wait to get back to the South! Doncha love it?! I miss the Southern hospitality. Born and raised in the South and proud of it, although I still have a hard time understanding even some of my own relatives - I've never had a Southern accent. But I still say, "y'all" :)

Oh these are great. Many of them I've heard/lived before... as Florida isn't too far away from SE GA... But I love this one the best "Fried catfish is the other white meat.".
