The Wacky Watercooler Holiday Catalog Blog Hop!

Wacky Watercooler New Catalog(ue) Blog Hop

Welcome!! Hopefully you have arrived here from Heidi's blog, if not then I'm sure you are missing out on something awesome!! So, just click on the Holiday Blog Hop banner above, and start from the beginning of our Hop! I'm sure you are all looking forward to trying out the latest & greatest goodies from Stampin' Up's holiday catalog, and we are here to tempt you further!

I'm really in love with all the beautiful papers in this year's catalog!!! So my designs are going to feature the newest papers, with an older technique - tea bag folding! What's that???

Tea bag folding is a kind of origami that was developed late in the 20th Century in Holland. Origami itself is a Japanese art of paper folding that dates back to antiquity. However, it has become a popular craft in many places around the world and has given rise to new designs and trends such as tea bag folding.

Tea bag folding was developed by a Dutch woman named Tiny van der Plas. She had been practicing origami for quite some time before she came up with this technique. The story goes that she was sitting at home one day having a cup of tea when she realized that she'd forgotten to get a birthday card for her sister. As she sat there, she began fiddling with the small paper envelope that her tea bag had come in. This gave her an idea for a new kind of origami.

This new kind of origami that Ms. van der Plas developed is made by using small square pieces of paper, like the packets that tea bags come in, and folding them in such a way as to create a three-dimensional interlocking design. Following the history of how this kind of origami was invented, tea bag folding is often used to create embellishments for greeting cards. They are also sometimes used to affix to gifts and certificates of achievement. They can also be used to embellish pages of scrapbooks and photo albums.

Pretty cool, huh?

Project #3
If you've seen the catalog already, you must have seen the gorgeous new Festive Flurries stamp set and matching framelits. Soooo yummy!!! And everyone is making the most gorgeous ornaments with them. Including me, lol! But I wanted to show something a bit different, so I again used a tea bag folding technique to show off the Winter Frost paper, while making a beautiful, sparkling ornament. Did you notice the new rhinestone embellishment in the center? And the super sparkly, silver ribbon?  Both are new, and only available while supplies last in the Holiday catalog!!! (So get 'em while you can!) To see a video making this fold, you can view it here.

Jeanne, I love the way you've used folding in all your projects. I am definitely going to use your videos as a tutorial to try to make some of these myself. I can't say which one I like most because they're all wonderful in their own way. Well, maybe the tree. Just because I love those colours. Or not...maybe I love them all equally. They're awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this great new technique.

I want to CASE all 3 of these for my stamp camp next week, but my customers will freak if I do more than one folding project, so now I have to decide. Sigh.
I am going to check out all 3 videos and maybe decorate for Christmas this year. I haven't decorated in years and years.

That Christmas tree one is really cool!

I assume the color is "Winter Frost" - someday maybe we will see a color like Konik Pinaceae Cedrus

My sister and I had a go at the hanging decoration - ours didn't look anything like yours but we had fun making them - it's on my blog (playing with ribbon)
