I cannot believe people can be so heartless. I was in tears. I just don't believe some of the things that go on in this world.

The girl didn't die, she is now in a coma and hospitalized.

Both drivers who ran over the girl have been arrested.

Many people in China are very reluctant to help someone because they might be blamed for it (like us in the USA - where people that perform CPR can be sued for leaving bruises) - and in China, "justice" is very swift and without mercy. A person accused of murder can be executed within a week.

Not to justify this in anyway - society is very sick... in many places.

If the people are afraid to help, as Iggy says, then the thing that still shocked me the most was how little the mother reacted!! She wasn't even rushing or running with the girl. And, honestly, the people didn't look "afraid" to me or even tempted to help her. Casually strolling or riding by.

And the child didn't even try to get help from passersby...like she knew already that she would get none.

If you knew people wouldn't help and would react like this, wouldn't you keep an even closer eye on your 2-year-old?

Some other cultures baffle me...hurt my heart.

Rita, unfortunately, it's because it was a little girl. If that had been a boy, people would have swarmed around him to save him. With the one child policy still in place in China, parents are still not eager to have girls, and will do unimaginable things to allow them to get permission from the government to have another child, hoping for a boy.

This made me bawl my eyes out. I lived in China for 7 months and I know what the society is like. It is so very different, people are afraid so I'm sure they didn't want to get involved. I witnessed stuff like this a few times, where I saw unspeakable things and no one doing anything about it. Horrible. I just can't believe it.
