Memorial Day

I miss you Daddy

It's been a year Daddy.
I really, really miss you.
Mommy says you're safe now,
in a beautiful place called Heaven.
We had your favorite dinner tonight.
I ate it all up,
even though I don't like carrots.
I learned how to swim this summer.
I can even open my eyes
when I'm under water.
Can't you see me?
I started kindergarten this year.
I carry around a picture of us
in my Blue's Clues lunchbox.
You are the greatest Daddy.
I can swing on the swing by myself,
even though I miss you pushing me.
Can't you see me?
I miss how you used to tickle me.
Tickle my belly.
My belly hurts.
I try not to cry.
Mommy says it's OK.
I know you don't like it when I cry.
Never wanted me to be sad.
I try Daddy but it hurts.
Is it true you're not coming home?
Maybe some day
I can visit you in Heaven, OK?
It's time for me to go to bed now.
I sleep with the light on,
just in case you come home
and kiss me good night.
I love you so much!
I miss you Daddy!!!

I almost put this same video up on my blog today. Remembering those who sacrificed their lives for our country!

I cried when I wrote my own post and yours sent me over the edge. I sang God Bless the USA at church yesterday, spoke first, had to fight crying then....this holiday really presses my emotional button. Give Thomas a hug for me today....and tell him Thanks from the Korb family in Rock Mills, AL.

When one stops to think about the meaning of this holiday, rather than the fun of it and day off stuff, it becomes very emotional. I've found myself crying several times when I've stopped to write or look at the flag - and just remember in general. Beautiful post. Thank you Jeannie.

Thanks so much for posting this. I have tears running down my face, but thanks to all the brave men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line, I have the opportunity to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Thanks to all the families who support our service members as well. You are just as important because you allow them to do their jobs and not worry about the "stuff" at home.

Beautiful post, Jeannie. I paid my respects to several members of my family today, and also to men I don't even know who were buried close to them. It's great seeing the American flag flying all over the place, too.

LeAnn Rimes does a great job singing this song. I used to play her version a lot during my Inspirational stream on Sunday mornings in the chat room.

Thanks for the share. *hugs*

I find the poem touching - in that it could mean soldiers that are away from home, serving their country .. or those that never make it home again.

*Hugs*

Thank you and yours -
