A totally wasted day...

Ugh! Don't you hate it when an entire day is completely wasted and you get nothing accomplished on your to do list?? Is it just me?? Because that really bugs me!!!! So living in on post housing, we aren't allowed to fix things ourselves. Even if we can do things better and faster! Nope, you gotta call things in and they will get to it....eventually. *sigh* So needless to say we sort of wait until several things need doing to make the wasted day somewhat worthwhile. Because they will tell you the day they are coming, but not the time and you have to wait, wait, wait for them to show up. Unless they get busy and then they don't. And they don't call to say they aren't going to show up either. Fun, huh??

So our day was on Monday. We had a lot of lights out, inside and outside, and had three outlets that just decided to just stop working. I told them we needed an ELECTRICIAN because it was a wiring issure not a burned out bulb. They said ok, but I later found out they don't have electricians, as in licensed, experienced, know-what-the-heck they are doing electricians. *bigger sigh*

The guy gets here and works on the outside stuff first. OK, fine. But why does my front and back door have to be open for that when it's freezing outside and I have the heat on???

And it wasn't that he left my doors open for over an hour that bugged me. Or the fact that he just reeked of cigarette smoke and body odor. Or the fact that his big ole clodhopper boots tracked in a ton of dirt all throughout my home. Or the fact that he left paint and drywall dust all on my floors messing with the outlets. Or the fact that he nearly dumped an entire bookshelf over with very important-to-me treasures on it. No, what really bugged me was when I went upstairs for something, he took a massive, stinky dump in my downstairs bathroom!!! That pretty much put me over the edge!!!!!! Blech, blech, yuckity blech!!!

And yeah, all the other stuff bugged me too.

He's "fairly confident" he knows where the problem is with my outlets but fixing it involves making a huge hole in my wall. I pulled the plug on that idea. No one is making a hole in my wall until I have written assurance that someone else is going to be fixing it the same day. Because I know for a fact that there are bugs, mice, and God knows what else in walls this time of year and I'm not having a welcome in hole for 'em to walk on in on!! So I have three outlets that don't work and that's VERY inconvenient!!

This home is only two years old. Do outlets "go bad" in two years??? Anyone?? I so needed a smoke on Monday!!!!! But didn't, of course! Stupid "handymen"...

That sounds mighty odd for such a new home.

I am an electrician's/electrical engineer's daughter...and outlets DO NOT go bad unless they were wired badly to begin with. I assume all the fuses were checked FIRST yes? It could be a faulty breaker, but it is likely that the wiring itself is bad.

And I would HAVE screamed at someone about the dump he took. That is just SO rude. I know when you gotta go, you gotta go, but DAYUM.

I live on post housing, too. We're the first tenants in our new housing. I agree, it's a pain to wait for Maintenance to come. Our most recent "malfunction' is the lighting in the bathroom, it has tripped the circuit breaker 3 times. My husband says I should have it checked out because it could be "serious". But I'm putting it off, I'd rather just walk down to the circuit box and turn it back on than wait around for maintenance to investigate!

that is really odd.

I have a great-great handyman that I rely on a lot, so I know how much it means to have a person you can always call :) Hope you find one too :)

That sounds like a mini nightmare! Super frustrating! I wonder what you would need to do in order to get someone out who would actually know how to fix the problem (and who doesn't smell horrible)? Is that really too much to ask?

I've only lived on post one time, for a year...and it was an utter nightmare.

I hope everything gets fixed VERY VERY soon!!!

Sounds like the apartment complex Jason and I lived in many years ago. Our air conditioner wasn't working and they never came to fix it. So Jason called the office and suggest perhaps he should bring the unit to them. The guy came with a new one the next day:)

I hope it gets fix soon, if it hasn't already!

Good job not smoking!!

lol I guess when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!

I think I'd fix my own stuff and to hell with the rules. Would they ever really figure it out? I guess anything would go bad after 2 years if it is not done right the first time!

Im with BRM. I understand the need to go, but at LEAST use the airfreshening spray that I've provided for such events...or light the candle at least, that's what the aim and flame is sitting there for!!!
