Great Tip Tuesday!

microwave Pictures, Images and Photos

Is your microwave gunky?? Would you like an easy tip for cleaning it? Take a coffee mug and fill it with water. Put into microwave and "nuke" on high for five minutes. Then let it sit for a couple of minutes. The steam will easily loosen up dried on gunk and then you can use a sponge to clean it out! Easy peasy!!

Do you have an easy fix for household chores? Put 'em in the comments!!

Oooh...I like that one!

Let's see...something I do is spill the salt on the stove top when there is dried on gunk. It wipes up pretty easy with a dab of water.

Thanks for sharing! You can also use a wet paper towel and heat it for a few seconds to clean your microwave.
BTW nice to meet another Ga mom!

dROP HALF A LEMON INTO THE MUG WITH WATER, AND IT MAKES IT SMELL CLEAN AND FRESH, AND THE LEMON OIL DISINFECTS IT TOO!

Did my husband solicit you to encourage me to clean?? It's all a conspiracy!!!

What a great idea! Thanks!

I have a great tip to make your household chores easier, it works for me everytime:

Hire someone else to do it!

I like Grand Pooba's tip the best.

Listen to this - hubby came home last night - have no idea what got into him (not the coming home part) - but he had tracked dirt in and he got the vaccuum out and vaccuummed (sp?) the kitchen and our room and THEN cleaned out the vaccuum filter and then got my daughter's vaccuum and cleaned her's too!! What a guy!

I needed your tip a couple weeks ago when I was scrubbing the microwave for what seemed like forever. LOL...

I will remember this tip for next time.

Good tip...back in Sept., The Diva decided to heat up her Hot Pocket Pizza Twist herself because it had gotten too cold (Daddy had had the BRILLIANT idea to teach our 3 year old how to use the microwave a few days earlier! MEN!). I was in the other room, she comes in to tell me something, and I SMELL SOMETHING BURNING!

I ran into the kitchen to find SMOKE pouring out of the microwave. The twisty thing was already sparking flames. I got there just in time! But now, no matter how much I clean it, how much baking soda I have put in there, it still smells like someone burned 20 bags of popcorn in it!

Maybe the Lemon will work?

Great tip! That's now the only way I clean my microwave, and it works BRILLIANTLY! Add in the lemon, and everything smells GREAT!

Well...not sure how much of a TIP this is... but my son (age 9 now, but we've been doing this for several years now) and I have what we call "Clean Reading Day". I make us each a list, I set the timer for 15 minutes and we clean until the timer goes off. Then I set the timer for another 15 minutes and we read for that 15 (we decide before we start if we are going to read a book together, or read on our own). We continue to clean for 15 and read for 15 until our lists are complete :) He loves it.. and I love having him help with housework PLUS we get in some great reading time :)

For those with dogs, a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and a white rag help get the stain of an accident right up. Pour some of the peroxide right on the stain, place white rag or washcloth over wet area and put a bit more peroxide ON the white rag. Let set until dry. For some reason, the yellow comes right up on the white rag and nothing is left on the carpet. Not sure how well this works with cat accidents as mine always makes it to her box. ;)

What?? Are you telling me that there is another option BESIDES completely replacing the microwave??? Hmmm, sounds cheaper, but like a lot more work!

That's a great tip and couldn't come at a better time!

OOOooo, I was just thinking I had to clean the microwave and I hate scrubbing.

I have no tips. I suck at house cleaning:)

Nice tip!

Hey, I was peeking around your blog more and noticed your hubby is in 3rd ID, or at least, from the badge thingy! Mine was too! We were at Benning though, but I wonder if they have served together!?

If you spill an egg, sprinkle with salt. The egg absorbs the salt and is super-easy to clean.

Another tip: keep cleaning tools/products close to where you use them for quick cleanups. I like swiffer dusters and keep them handy. I also make sure each bathroom has clorox wipes. Anyone can clean up the bathroom sink and counters in a jiffy, they don't have to wait till cleaning day.
