And yes, you read that right..am a Grandma, not going to be a Grandma! Ah Forrest, life truly is like a box of chocolates.
I was contacted through Facebook last Friday by a young woman asking if I was Shane's mother, and if so, did I have any contact information for him. Currently I'm on the "outs" with Shane because I dared to post something on MY Facebook wall about my purely evil EX-Mother in law. He took offense to that. (whatever) And in his now typical, spiteful manner....he blocked me from FB. His own mother!! The boy has issues and a severe case of revisionist history going on in his head. (again, whatever) So I told the young lady that I was indeed his mother, but I only had his mailing address at this point. Seeing how the address was merely a PO box, not a physical address, I didn't have any qualms sharing it with a stranger because she already knew where he was stationed, and it didn't pose any kind of security risk.
And then she dropped the bombshell. She and Shane had dated early last year, but after finding out she was pregnant, Shane iced her out pretty much the way he's done to everyone else. Apparently he actually seemed to think that blocking someone from Facebook and changing his cell phone number could make a baby disappear!! Epic fail! The baby was born on October 1, 2013, but she had not been able to make contact with Shane since May. SINCE MAY!!!!!!!!! Of last year!!!
You know Dear Reader that I always keep it real on my blog. I don't hide things and I always tell it like it is. And my son is acting like a total douche!!!!! I'm so ashamed and embarrassed by his behavior! The poor girl is just looking out for her sweet baby, and my son can't be bothered by it. Needless to say, I wasn't going to allow that to last any longer! I immediately called Thomas and filled him in. He looked up the 1SG of Shane's unit, and emailed him the situation. To say that the "poop hit the fan" would be an understatement. If he thought that he had gotten away with this, he was quickly corrected early Friday morning!!! Now his chain of command is involved, paternity will be confirmed very soon, and his obligations (at least financially) will be taken care of. The fact that he's the father of a sweet, beautiful son, that is literally his physical carbon copy has yet to dawn on him. To this day, he hasn't asked about the baby or even seen a photo of him. He did call the mother, because he was ordered to, and asked her what she wanted. Like....what do I have to do to make this go away, sort of deals. *sigh* Oh Shane, where did I go wrong with you????
All I can say is THANK GOD the mother of my first grandchild has stepped up, and has been so strong and brave! She has a large and extended family who has stood by her and supported her 100%. And now she has me in her corner too. I was able to accomplish in less than 24 hours what she had been trying to do for the past 9 months!! With Thomas' help, we were able to make things right. If my son makes the poor choice to not be involved with this beautiful miracle, I'm going to at least make sure he fulfills his legal financial and medical obligations. We will make damn sure of that much at least!
Please meet my Grandson, Emmett!
He loves to snuggle with his "lovie" giraffe!
And now besides stamping supplies, I now get to buy things like this:
Oh-so-cute baby outfits!
And warm, fuzzy jackets!
And TOYS!!!
Yep, I'm really digging this Grandma Gig!!!! I can only be responsible for my own actions, and my own reactions. I've made the choice to love this child, and to be a part of his life. I am blessed beyond belief!!!! On a funny note, when I told Bella that Shane now has a baby, with her happy, surprised smile she asked when did Shane get married??? That was her first response! At least I'm doing something right with that kid! I had to explain to her that Shane didn't do things in the right way like God wants us to, but that we now get to share in another wonderful little life. AND that she was now an Aunt! Needless to say, she's tickled.
I am too!

That little boy is just precious. There is nothing like being a Grammy. AS for your son, there is nothing quite so frightening to a military person than to have your commanding officer involved when you have behaved like a jackass. I hope your son will do the right thing and MAYBE not being in his son;s life right now is the right thing...for the baby's sake anyway.
Congratulations Jeannie, he is an adorable little guy! You definitely did the right thing and you are going to be a great
Gramma!!!
I'm going to join you in less than a month, but my daughter wants nothing to do with the baby's father-same situation, but opposite sides. She's so confused right now that even I don't know what's going on in her head.
Hoping everything works out well for you and everyone involved.
Michelle {{hugs}}
What a precious baby, Jeannie! Congrats! Sure hope and pray that everything works out beautifully in the end!
Congratulations, Grandma! It may not be an ideal situation, but what a blessing you now have! He's a super cutie too ;)
Oh my, Jeannie! Emmett is gorgeous and I am so glad his momma got in touch with you! I am praying for Shane to see the light and put the past behind for the sake of the entire family. God Bless!
Oh girl, what a precious little gift from God. You are blessed. Your story hit me hard because of some similarities to my own (in reverse). Heading out right now, but will talk later. Love that sweet baby!
So sweet and Bella's reaction is priceless. Congratulations on being a good Mom and a happy Grandmother.
Oh goodness. I hope Shane "mans up."
He is absolutely adorable! What a beautiful baby. Congrats, Jeanne - to you, Thomas and "Aunt Bella!"
Congrats to you all! Precious baby!
Congratulations! You will be a wonderful Grandma to that beautiful sweet boy!
Oh my heck!! :) You'll be the best grandma ever!! Way to go! You are totally amazing!!!
I forgot to Congratulate you on being Grandma and for doing the right thing. Plus I had to come back and check out that sweet smile again
What a cutie. :) Congratulations on the new grandson. You will love being a grandmother as much as I do, I'm sure. I'm sorry the situation is what it is, but I think you're going about it in the right way. Best of luck to all of you. *hugs*
Congratulations! What an adorable little boy! I know you will be the best grandma you can be, despite the distance. I hope Shane takes responsibility and does what he should have done a long time ago.
Congratulations!
He's sweet!
OMG!! What a surprise!! You did the right thing and I hope you get to see him next time you go to the states!! I'm so happy for you!!! :) :)
OMG! He is just about the most beautiful baby EVER! (Next to my own, of course!) I feel your heartache with Shane. (Blame it on your ex!) As my boys grow into men, I'm realizing that we did the best we could with them, but they are responsible for their own actions and have to deal with their own decisions. Boy, he made a HUGE mistake with being in the military and not taking responsibility! I'm amazed that he thought he could get away with it. That sweet baby is very lucky to have you in his life! I know you can't wait to get a hold of him!
Cute little guy!
Hi there girl! Well I haven't caught up on things with you lately and here I see you're a grandma! I'm just going to look past all of the crap your son has put you through and be joyous with you in the fact that you've got that gorgeous baby to have fun with! Take care and enjoy!
Peace & Luv,
Jeannie
Adorable and well shane is after all only half you so you can't take responsibility there. I love the fun pressies!
